Starring Richard Derr and Barbara Rush, the movie – in Technicolor – involves a group of scientists who discover that a planet and a star are hurtling toward Earth at gigantic speed and that Earth is doomed. There’s little more than a year to do something about it. Some people think it’s a conspiracy, some believe it, others don’t, and a core group build a rocket to escape the whole thing.
Will the untested rocket work? Can they find life on a new planet?
“Since this is a George Pal film,” said Grayson, “you can expect the whole thing to be as correct as possible for 1951, and the effects are pretty good.”
Grayson will also screen “Rocketship X-M” (1950) on July 12 and “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” (1956) on Aug. 16.
Admission is $5; concessions are $1. Info: 327-7135 or www.gpacarts.org. Visit www.drfilm.net for more information about Grayson’s work.
