Stephen Andrew Schmidt, longtime pastor of Triumph Church in Greenwood and chaplain for the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, shares memories of his life experiences in “I Count My Life by Sabbaths.”

Readers will be able to relate to some stories while finding others rather bizarre, said Schmidt. Narratives will provoke chuckles and cause misty eyes as the entire range human emotions and experiences is explored.  

The author offers colorful descriptions of people who wandered in and out of his life, many leaving behind their peculiar brush strokes on the canvas of his life. Schmidt’s sometimes incapacitating struggle with fear and anger will grip readers as he pulls back the curtain on his experiences growing up in a preacher’s home and his efforts not to be a repeat violent abuser.

Schmidt, whose book is available at www.amazon.com and Kindle, has earned degrees from Apostolic Bible Institute and Indiana University. He hosted “The Voice of Endtime” on WNTS 1590 AM for 23 years. He and his wife, Wendy, have three grown children and live in Greenwood.

One town. Two actors. Nearly 20 characters. It all adds up to “Greater Tuna,” which opens Thursday at Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre.

The production kicks off the theater’s 45th season with lots of fun from the fictional town of Tuna – the third-smallest town in Texas – with Thurston Wheelis and Arles Struvie at the microphones of Radio OKKK, broadcasting at a big 275 watts (when they remember to turn the transmitter on). 

The winning entry in the American Heritage essay contest is the big story of the day. Then Didi Snavely, of Didi’s Used Guns, arrives, followed by weatherman Harold Dean Lattimer, who warns of an incoming swarm of locusts but is doubtful they’ll ever make it as far as Tuna. And the laughs keep coming when Petey Fisk from the Humane Society stops by to talk about the town’s problem with ducks. 

Tuna’s eclectic citizens (played by funnymen Eddie Curry and Jeff Stockberger) continue to take the stage in all their outrageous and irreverent glory, commenting on life, politics and what makes them tick.
