Sammy Terry, a ghoul who emerged from his coffin each week to introduce late-night TV’s “Nightmare Theater” on WTTV-4 in the 1960s and ’70s, will preside over an evening of spooky fun Friday at Indiana Landmarks Center.

Originally played by Bob Carter before his death in 2013, Terry is now portrayed by Carter’s son, Mark, who will host a brief game show and introduce the 1925 classic “The Phantom of the Opera,” considered one of the best horror films of the silent era. The silent 1921 comedy short “The Haunted House,” which stars Buster Keaton, will also be shown.

Mark Herman, an award-winning theater organist, will provide spooky accompaniment for the feature and a comedy short.

A cash bar will be available, and door prizes will be awarded. Those attending can dress in phantom or opera singer attire to compete for a cash prize. Sammy will be available for photos as well.

Tickets are $12 and available by calling 639-4534 or at the door, 1201 Central Ave.

SUBMITTED PHOTO The cast of “Play On!” features (seated, from left) Shelby Hedges, Blakelee Steeb, Maci Godme; (back) Gretchen Erdmann, Samuel Brandt, Ted Deitz, Ben Chapman, Ryan Meyer, Jackson Waite and Amber Roth.
“Play On!” a play-within-a-play comedy about a dysfunctional community theater group attempting to premiere an original work by one of its members, will be staged Nov. 20 an 21 by Lutheran High School.

The production is sidelined by an aggravated director, an incompetent stage crew, egocentric cast members and a meddling author who continues to change the script moments before the performance. While the players struggle with these and other challenges, the audience is treated to a madcap climax and a thoroughly hilarious romp.

The students are heavily involved in all aspects of the production, including set construction, costumes, sound and lighting design.

Tickets, $5 per student, $10 per adult, are available at the school and will be sold at the door. Info: 787-5474.
