Smoking Cessation Classes Offered for Free 
The American Lung Association’s free smoking cessation classes will be held from 6-7 p.m. Tuesdays, June 3, through 24 at White River Library, 1664 Library Blvd., Greenwood. The classes will touch on strategies to help people successfully stop smoking and start enjoying the benefits of better health. Registration: Bob Smith at 346-4372.

Auditions for Garfield Shakespeare’s Camelot
The Garfield Shakespeare Company will hold auditions for Lerner and Loewe’s “Camelot” from 6-8:45 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, June 3 and 4, at the Garfield Park Arts Center, 2450 Shelby St., where callbacks will be June 5. Production dates are scheduled for Aug. 22, 23, 29, 30 and Sept. 5 and 6. Info: 327-7135.

Manual’s Class of 1965 Is Planning Reunion

Farmers Market Open Tuesdays and Fridays
The Southport Farmers Market, which is held on the parking lot of Southport Antique Mall, 2028 E. Southport Road, features about 20 vendors from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesdays and from 3-7 p.m. Fridays. A sampling of the wares includes dairy products, baked goods, meats, jewelry, flowers, plants and soaps. Coast Guard Member Needed to Participate in Flag Program
Kenny Winslow, who’s organizing the Southport flag ceremony on Saturday, June 14, is looking for a former or current Coast Guard member to participate in the program. Info: 788-0547.

Auditions for ‘Beauty & the Beast Jr.’
Buck Creek Playhouse, 11150 Southeastern Ave., will hold open auditions for Disney’s “Beauty & the Beast Jr.” at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, June 9 and 10. The cast calls for 11-20 performers ages 18 and under. Auditioners should come prepared to read from the script (call 862-2270 for a copy) and to sing 16-20 measures of a prepared song. An accompanist will be provided. Production dates are the first two weekends in August.

Free movie, concert series open at Garfield Park

Although summer doesn’t officially arrive for about 3 1/2 weeks, that isn’t stopping Garfield Park, 2450 Shelby St., from launching an array of its popular seasonal offerings.

The free movie program gets under way at dusk Saturday with “Back to the Future” being shown behind the arts center. Movies will be presented the last Saturday of each month through September. Patrons can bring picnic baskets and/or enjoy goodies served by food truck vendors. 


Music in the Garden will make its 2014 debut at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 5, with the Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra performing for free in the Sunken Gardens. Those attending are asked to bring lawn chairs.


The concert season will shift into high gear when Ruditoonz and The Woomblies take the stage at the MacAllister Center for the Performing Arts at 7 and 8 p.m., respectively, Saturday, June 7. Concertgoers can grab a seat in the amphitheater or bring a blanket or lounge chairs and enjoy a picnic on the lawn. Tickets are $5 for everyone 3 and older. Info: 327-7135.
