The Southport Artistry Committee will once again host its Spring into Arts contests in conjunction with the Southport Street Fair, which begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at the city park, 6901 Derbyshire Road.
There will be a contest for committee members and youths and the one known as the Artists in Action challenge because all participants – 16 or older – will create their masterpieces during the festival. Any medium is acceptable, and registration starts at 9 a.m. A panel of judges will determine the winner, who will receive $200. Second- and third-place finishers will win $100 and $50, respectively. Artists must bring all of their supplies and equipment and clean up afterward. Visitors to the fair can cast ballots for their favorite works in the other two competitions. In all, $500 will be awarded. More information will be available during the club’s meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Southport Community Center, 6901 Derbyshire Road.
