The American Red Cross’ blood supply is at a dangerously low level and is issuing an urgent call for donors. More than 550 blood drives have been canceled this month due to inclement weather, causing more than 16,500 blood donations to go uncollected. “Blood donations are being distributed to hospitals faster than they are coming in,” said Rodney Wilson, communications manager for the Red Cross Indiana Ohio Blood Services Region. Donors must be in generally good health, at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent) and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 1-800-733-2767 or visiting www.redcrossblood.org.
