The impressionistic paintings of Patricia Bardes will be exhibited throughout July at the Southside Art League.

Bardes began painting as a child and later studied at Herron School of Art and Indiana University while raising her five children. It was when she moved to Nashville, Ind., that her artwork began to take shape. She started painting on a daily basis, finding time to paint an hour or two before work.

Bardes said she loves the challenges and rewards of painting en plein air, which means outside from real-life scenes.

The gallery, 299 E. Broadway St., Greenwood, is open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. The exhibit can be viewed outside of those hours by calling 882-5562. A reception in Bardes’ honor will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 8.

Play offers modern slant to old tale

“The Robin Hood Caper” opens July 8 for three weekends at Epilogue Players, 1849 Alabama St.

This is the story of robbing from the rich and giving to the poor, but not even Robin Hood would recognize the hilarious modern slant given to it.

Four old members in the Charities Anonymous Club report on their good works at the home of Flora Langley’s nephew, a small-town journalist in danger of losing his newspaper to the grafting mayor.

Langley and her friends are actually retired crooks who use their old modus operandi for charitable purposes. Through the plot there is woven an unusual love story and moments of satire and hilarity.

Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 2 p.m. Sundays. Tickets, $13 per senior, $15 per adult, can be reserved by calling 926-3139.
