Benefit for Cancer Patient
A benefit for Denny Frye, who has cancer and limited medical insurance, will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, at Bert & Den’s Grill in Southern Plaza, 4200 S. East. The Scenic Fire Band will perform from 1:30-3 p.m., and Kenny Pierle will play from 4-6 p.m. The event will feature a cornhole tournament, $2 domestics, discounted pizza, a 50-50 raffle and prizes. Senior Community Hosting Benefit for Hurricane Victims
A heartbreaking picture showing elderly people trapped inside an assisted living facility, sitting waist-deep in flood waters caused by Hurricane Harvey, has prompted Forest Creek Village, a senior community at 525 E. Thompson Road, to host a benefit lunch for nursing homes in Galveston County, Texas. Lunch, featuring pulled pork, green beans, chips and a cookies, will be served for $5 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Manual Class of 1972 Reunion
Manual High School’s Class of 1972 will host its 45-year reunion from 5-10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at Primo Banquet & Conference Center, 2615 National Ave., where a classic car show (no awards) will be held at 5 p.m. There is no fee to enter, and the show is open to everyone. The Hoosier Environmental Council, Reconnecting to Our Waterways and South Indy Quality of Life will host a cleanup along Pleasant Run Parkway and the creek from 9-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16. Volunteers, who need to bring gloves, are asked to meet in the parking lot across from Garfield Park Community Church, 743 E. Pleasant Run Parkway South Drive.
