The Garfield Park Conservatory has launched a gardening club for families that are short on space, know-how or just want to have some fun. 

Families that sign up will be provided garden space, plants, seeds, help with garden maintenance and advice along the way.

The club meets every other Tuesday at the conservatory, 2450 Shelby St. Each session will have a different theme with a brief lesson, craft and/or activity for children and the chance to tend to the gardens.

Conservatory staff will take care of watering and maintenance in between meetings.

Perry Meridian High School’s Adam Crozier, Billy Mocco, Emerson Salyers, Hannah and Maegan Scheib and Valerie York, Southport’s Colin Harris and Nicole Whitman and Central Catholic School’s Harlan Phillips have been accepted into the Symphonic Youth Orchestra of Greater Indianapolis’ summer program.

The students were accepted based on a successful audition and interview in which they demonstrated their instrumental techniques, musicianship and leadership abilities.

The orchestra will perform works by Prokofiev and Bernstein at 1 p.m. July 2 at the Indianapolis Artsgarden and 7:30 p.m. July 9 at Cathedral.
