Now in its 49th year, the beloved tradition is larger than ever. New activities await visitors under the Bicentennial Pavilion, which looks like a Christmas card has come to life.
Inside Santa’s study, children can meet the bearded gent and see mementos from his world travels. Visitors can decorate delectable cookies in Mrs. Claus’ kitchen, and the “snowflakery” mirror maze hides fun and surprises around every corner.
Guests can interact with a variety of animals, including penguins, reindeer, tigers, sea lions, red pandas, brown bears and walruses.
A stunning new tunnel of lights will lead visitors from the Bicentennial Pavilion into the rest of the decorated zoo, which has been nominated for a third straight year for USA Today’s 10 Best Zoo Lights. A magical nighttime experience will come into view at dusk with the twinkling glow of LED lights.
Indoor exhibits will offer relief from cold weather. Additionally, special animal keeper chats throughout the day will help put everyone in the Christmas spirit.
The program, which runs through Dec. 30, is free for zoo members and included with regular admission. Advance tickets are available at participating Donatos and Teachers Credit Union locations. Info: www.indianapoliszoo.com/.
