Heartland Film Festival Summer Rewind will showcase 12 feature films from the 2014 Heartland Film Festival in an abbreviated format June 18-20 in the Fountain Square cultural district.
The event will provide moviegoers the opportunity to see independent films from all over the world and to interact with filmmakers and actors like James “The Amazing” Randi and Mary Kate Wiles (“The Lizzie Bennet Diaries” web series).

“We are very excited to announce the schedule and line-up of attending filmmakers at the second annual Summer Rewind mini-festival,” says Heartland Film President Stuart Lowry. “One of the things we love most at Heartland Film is connecting audiences and filmmakers through a mutual love of independent films in our great city of Indianapolis.”

Being able to connect with filmmakers is what sets film festivals apart from the everyday cinema experience, said Lowry, who noted that every October the festival hosts more than 130 filmmakers from all over the world.

Opening night will feature a screening of  “An Honest Liar” at 7 p.m., followed by a performance from magician Randi, a question-and-answer session with filmmakers and a party at Wheeler Arts Community, 1035 Sanders St., Suite 111.

The film is a character study of Randi, who has entertained millions of people with his remarkable feats of magic for the last half century. When he saw his beloved tricks being used by faith healers and psychics – not for entertainment but to steal money from innocent people – he dedicated his life to exposing those frauds. But when a shocking revelation in his personal life is discovered, it isn’t clear whether he is still the deceiver ... or the deceived.

Tickets are $13 online and $15 at the box office, but tickets to most films are $6 and $8, respectively. Visit heartlandfilm.org to purchase tickets and for the schedule, which also features movies at the Heartland Basile Theatre, 1043 Virginia Ave.
