If you’ve never taken your children to the theater – or even if you have – “Mary Poppins” is a great show to introduce them to the stage.
Families will enjoy being swept away with Disney’s high-flying production, which is on stage for the first time at Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre. Based on one of the most popular Disney films of all time, the musical is nothing short of supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! “Mary Poppins” a wonderful show for old and young alike to watch with a childlike wonder.
A jack-of-all trades, Bert, introduces us to 1910 England and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives unexpectedly on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic, nonsense and common sense, she must teach the family members how to value one another again.
Nominated for seven Tony Awards, “Mary Poppins” includes a score filled with timeless classics such as “A Spoonful of Sugar,” “Step in Time” and the Academy Award-winning “Chim-Chim Cher-ee.”
The production stars Cara Statham Serber, who was most recently seen as Maria in “The Sound of Music” last season. Her persona as Mary Poppins is spit-spot on the mark. Buddy Reeder plays Bert, Eddie Curry as George Banks and local young performers Kennedy Martin as Jane Banks and Logan Sejas as Michael Banks.
The musical is on stage through June 29. Tickets, $10 for children ages 3-15 and $38.50 to $63.50 for adults, include a buffet dinner and can be reserved by calling 872-9664. Show times are listed at www.beefandboards.com.
