Jazz Fest opens at UIndy

A mainstay in the Indianapolis arts and culture scene for nearly two decades, this year’s Indy Jazz Fest returns this year with a lineup celebrating the legacies of jazz, modern masters and the discovery of new stars. 

The 10-day festival will open at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at UIndy with the Indy Jazz Fest Band’s free tribute to Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Mongo Santamaria and Thelonious Mark.

• Ignacio Berroa Cubop Quintet’s tribute to Dizzy Gillespie, Sept. 20.
• Farrelly Markiewicz Jazz Quintet and Bill Lancton/the Jimmy Davis Band perform on Main Street in Speedway, Sept. 22.
