End-of-Summer Bash at Ernie Pyle VFW 
Ernie Pyle Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1120, 1850 S. East St., is hosting its annual End-of-summer Bash on Saturday. A spaghetti dinner will be served from 5-7 p.m., with a band performing from 9 p.m. to midnight. 

Women Will Be Honored for Community Service
The seventh annual Angels of Grace – A Celebration of Women awards luncheon will be held from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Primo Banquet Hall & Conference Center, 2415 National Ave. The program, which includes a style show, will honor several women who have dedicated their lives to serving others through selfless acts of compassion and kindness. Tickets are $35 and can be reserved by calling 788-7581.

Tailgate Party for Beech Grove Alumni
Beech Grove High School’s Alumni Association will host its 23rd annual homecoming tailgate party at 5 p.m. Friday in the school parking lot. All alumni and their families are welcome. Players from the 1954 football team, the school’s last football squad to go undefeated, will be honored. Info: Barbara Simmerman at 850-5804.

Rummage Sale Thursday, Friday and Saturday
Southport Presbyterian Church will host a rummage sale at its shelter house, 1427 Southview Drive, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m.-noon Saturday. Proceeds will help to send children to camp.
Music Show and Sale
Featuring out-of-print and hard-to-find records, compact discs, DVDs, tapes, etc., a music show and sale will be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday at La Quinta Inn & Suites, I-465 and Emerson Avenue. The public is welcome to bring music-related items to sell. Admission is $3 for those 12 and older. Info or booth space: Gerald Ruark at 882-3378. 
Orchid Fest and Orchids 101 Class
Orchid Fest opens Saturday and runs through Sunday, Oct. 5, at the Garfield Park Conservatory, 2450 Shelby St., and it can be viewed from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Cost is $3 per person or $8 per family (two adults maximum). A class on the basics of growing orchids will be held from 1:30-2:20 p.m. Saturday. The cost is $6 and includes admission to the show. Registration is required and be arranged by calling 327-7580.
Fish and Tenderloin Fry
Christ United Methodist Church, 8540 S. U.S. 31, will host its annual fish and tenderloin fry from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The cost for an adult meal is $8 and includes a sandwich, two side dishes, a dessert and a beverage. A hot dog dinner (includes side dish or chips, dessert and beverage) for children ages 4-12 will be available for $4. In addition to on-site dining, carryout and drive-through service will be offered. Info: 882-1549.

MacArthur Elementary’s Dads Club Will Host Fish Dinner 
The Dads Club from MacArthur Elementary, 454 E. Stop 11 Road, will host its annual all-you-can-eat fish dinner and raffle from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2. The cost is $9 for adults, $6 for children; preschoolers ages 4 and younger can eat for free. Drinks are additional.

‘Charlotte’s Web’ Will Be Staged at Whiteland High
Whiteland High School’s theater department will present “Charlotte’s Web” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $5. 

Show Promises to be a Gem for Stone, Jewelry Collectors
The 16th annual Indianapolis Fall Bead, Gem, Mineral & Jewelry Show runs from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 3 and 4 and from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. In addition to fine gems and beads, the event will feature jewelry makers, goldsmiths and silversmiths who can reconstruct, repair or craft jewelry. There will also be food vendors, hourly door prizes and a grand prize of a precious stone set in a gold ring. Classes and demonstrations in bead stringing, lampwork bead making, wire wrapping, sculpting and Viking net will be offered Friday and Saturday. Greenwood Band Will Perform at Church Festival 
The Greater Greenwood Community Band will perform Saturday afternoon during SS. Francis and Clare’s parish festival. The church is located at 5901 Olive Branch Road, Greenwood.

 Drive-by Dropoff of Unwanted, Expired Prescription Drugs Offered
The Drug Enforcement Administration and Franciscan St. Francis Health are offering a disposal site for unwanted or expired prescription drugs from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday in the northwest corner of the hospital’s parking lot, 8111 S. Emerson Ave. The service is free and anonymous – no questions will be asked. The rates of prescription drug abuse, accidental poisonings and overdoses are alarmingly high, the DEA reports. A majority of the medications – both pills and liquids – are obtained from family and friends. Disposal of the drugs by flushing them down the toilet or discarding them into the trash poses safety and health concerns.

Help Is Available for Genealogy Research
Representatives from the Samuel Bryan Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution will provide research assistance on genealogy from 4-7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at Beech Grove Library, 1102 Main St.. Registration is required. Info: 788-4203. 

UIndy Faculty Musicians Will Perform
University of Indianapolis faculty musicians will be featured in a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at the DeHaan Fine Arts Center, 1400 E. Hanna Ave. The program will highlight the music of three continents while showcasing sopranist Kathleen Hacker; flautist Tamara Thweatt, pianist Gregory Martin, guitarist Nemanja Ostoich, double bassist Peter Hansen, trumpeters Vu Nguyen and Larry Powell, trombonist Blake Schlabach, tubist Glen Dimick, hornist Darin Sorley and UIndy’s brass faculty.  Southport Farmers Market Open Tuesdays, Fridays

The Southport Farmers Market, located in the parking lot of Southport Antique Mall, 2028 E. Southport Road, is open from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesdays and 3-7 p.m. Fridays. A sampling of the vendors’ goods includes dairy products, baked goods, meats, jewelry, flowers, plants and soaps.
