Appreciation Day for Veterans, Their Families 
Mayor Greg Ballard’s Veterans Family Appreciation Day at Garfield Park, 2450 Shelby St., on Saturday will feature a free fish fry and picnic, music, games, and a classic car show. Running from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., the event will also feature vendors addressing issues that face veterans. Those wanting to register their cars (fee is $15) can do so from 9 a.m.-noon that morning. Senior Promise Will Host Strawberry Festival
Franciscan St. Francis Health’s Senior Promise is hosting its Spring Fling Strawberry Festival from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, at Sarah T. Bolton Park, 1300 Churchman Ave., Beech Grove. The event will feature free strawberry shortcake, entertainment and door prizes. In the event of inclement weather, the festival will be moved to Altenheim Senior Living, 3525 E. Hanna Ave.  

Baxter YMCA Will Host Senior Health Fair
 Baxter YMCA, 7900 Shelby St., will host its annual spring health fair for seniors from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday. The program will feature free screenings, door prizes and lunch courtesy of Lincoln Square Pancake House. With more than 40 vendors participating, seniors will have access to information that benefit them physically, mentally, spiritually and financially. University Heights UMC Will Serve Free Lunches  
University Heights United Methodist Church, 4002 Otterbein Ave. and adjacent to the University of Indianapolis, will serve free lunches from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday. 

 Southport Masons to Host Breakfast Buffet
A buffet breakfast will be served from 7-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Southport Masonic Lodge, 5678 S. U.S. 31, where eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, hash browns, toast, coffee and juice will be served for $6. 

St. Catherine’s Class of 1964 Will Hold Reunion 
St. Catherine of Siena Grade School’s Class of 1964 will hold its 50-year reunion July 19 at St. Roch Parish Life Center, 3603 S. Meridian St. The cost is $30 per person, $45 per couple. Info: Jan (Crist) Roembke at 422-8074 or Mike Gallagher at 753-5434.

Garfield Shakespeare Company Will Host Open House
The Garfield Shakespeare Company is hosting a fundraising open house from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at the Garfield Arts Center, 2450 Shelby St., where free appetizers and hard cider from New Day Meadery will be served. There will also be short vignettes and a slide show of the troupe’s performances. 

Out to Lunch Bunch Has New Meeting Place
The Out to Lunch Bunch, a satellite group of the Quilters Guild of Indianapolis, now meets at MCL Restaurant & Bakery, 3630 S. East St. Kathy Springer from Quilt Quarters will discuss using 60-degree triangle rulers to make beautiful quilts when the club meets at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 22.  

Beech Grove High School Alums Will Meet
Beech Grove’s Alumni Association welcomes all graduates of the school to its meeting and the election of officers at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, at  Hornet Park Community Center. 

How Have Saints and/or Holy People Influenced Your Life?
A four-week workshop that will ask participants to consider how certain saints and holy people have influenced their lives will run from 7-9 p.m. Wednesdays, May 21, through June 11 at the Benedict Inn and Conference Center, 1402 Southern Ave., Beech Grove. Sisters Julie Sewell and Annie Endris said the program, which costs $45, is intended to be fun and spiritual. The public is welcome to walk around the center’s labyrinth from 7-8:30 p.m. the third Thursday of each month through Sept. 21. There is no charge. Registration is required for each program. Book Sale at Beech Grove Library
The Friends of Beech Grove Library’s book sale opens with a preview for Friends only from 4-7 p.m. today. The sale will be open to the public from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Friends memberships may be purchased at the sale. Info: 788-4203.

Greater Greenwood Community Band Concert 
The Greater Greenwood Community Band will play a variety of music when opening its outdoor season of concerts at 7 p.m. Sunday at Surina Square Amphitheater, just east of the 300 block of South Meridian Street in Greenwood. 

 Garfield Neighbors Meet
The Garfield Neighbors Neighborhood Association meets at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, at the Burrello Family Center in Garfield Park. A representative of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and Lisa Laflin, Mayor Greg Ballard’s neighborhood liaison to the Southside, will field questions.

Support Group for Caregivers Meets 
Representatives from the Department of Veterans Affairs’ caregivers service will discuss their work when a support group for individuals who care for the elderly meets from 5:30-7 p.m. Monday, May 19, at St. Mark Catholic School, 541 E. Edgewood Ave. For more information about the program, which is sponsored by Catholic Charities Indianapolis, call Monica Woodsworth at 261-3378 or email mwoodsworth@archindy.org.
