Farmers Market Is Open Saturday Mornings
The Greenwood Farmers Market is open from 8 a.m.-noon Saturdays in the parking lot of Greenwood United Methodist Church, 525 N. Madison Ave.

Oktoberfest Offers First Responders Free Admission Opening Night   
In appreciation of their work, all police officers, firemen and emergency medical technicians will be admitted free to Oktoberfest on Thursday at German Park, 8600 S. Meridian St., when showing their badges or identification at the gate, which opens at 4 p.m. The celebration, hosted by The German-American Klub, continues Friday and Saturday with food, beer and music by Flatbed Twitch, Henry Lee Summer, Tastes Like Chicken, The Original Alpine Express, Jay Fox and the Bavarian Showtime Band, Polkamotion and Ride That Train. Admission is $5; children ages 12 and under will be admitted free.  

Charity Run for Parkinson Foundation

The Indiana Parkinson Foundation will host its fifth annual Choose to Move run Saturday, Sept. 16, at Witten Park, 13600 E. 134th St., Fishers. The 5K and fun runs begin at 9:30 a.m. The event will also feature a kids zone and a health fair. Info: www.indianaparkinson.org or 317-560-5648.

Free Health Screenings
Wellness Wednesday will be held from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, at Kroger, 8850 S. Emerson Ave., where free health screenings will be available and vendors will showcase their services. Those who donate blood will be eligible for a drawing to win a $25 gift card. Door prizes will also be awarded. Register in advance at 317-409-0908 and get two chances to win. 

Benefit for Cancer Patient
A benefit for Denny Frye, who has cancer and limited medical insurance, will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday at Bert & Den’s Grill in Southern Plaza, 4200 S. East. The Scenic Fire Band will perform from 1:30-3 p.m., and Kenny Pierle will play from 4-6 p.m. The event will feature a cornhole tournament, $2 domestics, discounted pizza, a 50-50 raffle and prizes. Democrats Will Register Voters

The Decatur Democratic Club will host a pitch-in/voter registration dinner meeting at 5:45 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, at the Buffer Park Golf Course clubhouse, 3825 Foltz St. Steve Terrell, a lawyer, will be the guest speaker. Info: Jon Easter at 317-856-8541. 

Guild Is Planning Card Party
The Ave Maria Guild of St. Paul Hermitage will meet at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, to plan its Sept. 28 card party and raffle. 

Radio-Controlled Planes Will Soar

The Indianapolis South Radio-Control Club will host its benefit air show, “Fly-in for Diabetes,” from noon-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at 3200 E. Worthsville Road, Greenwood. Flying demonstrations will feature scale aircraft, including World War I and II fighters, and aerobatic helicopters and planes. There may even be a few drones. Info: www.indyrcsouth.org.

Outdoor Services at Garfield Christian Church
Garfield Christian Church, 1751 E. Walker Ave., will hold outdoor community worship services from 5-8 p.m. Saturday and at 10 a.m. Sunday. Saturday’s worship will feature various praise bands, and a neighborhood picnic starts at noon Sunday.

Dinner for Military Members, Veterans, Their Families
Christ Our Shepherd Church of the Brethren, 857 N. State Road 135, Greenwood, will host a free dinner program for all military members and their families at 5 p.m. Sunday. Scott Emmett, who was on active duty for 21-plus years in the Army, will be the guest speaker. His wife served three years, his daughter eight years in the Air Force Reserve. His oldest son was in the Army Reserve for eight years, and his youngest son in on active duty. Reservations are not required. Info: 317-416-7888.  
 
Tailgate Party and Band at Roncalli’s Homecoming
Roncalli’s homecoming will get underway with a tailgate party from 5:30-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, under a tent in the north parking lot, where free hamburgers, hot dogs and soft drinks will be available. After the football game between the Rebels and Brebeuf, Tastes Like Chicken will perform. Tickets, which cost $10 and include food catered by Big Daddy’s Bar & Grill, can be ordered by calling 317-787-8277 ext. 242. No minors allowed. 

Benefit for Animal Shelter
“A Saturday Night Fever Pawty” to benefit the Southside Animal Shelter will be held from 7-11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at The Yellow Rose Inn, 1441 N. Delaware St. Tickets are $50-$100 and include food, cocktails and live music. There will also be silent auctions. Info: www.ssasi.org. 

Jon McLaughlin in Concert at UIndy
Pop rocker Jon McLaughlin will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at Smith Mall on the University of Indianapolis, 1400 E. Hanna Ave. Those attending can picnic before the show or purchase food catered by UIndy. Tickets are $7 each, and tables for 10 by the stage cost an additional $40. Book Discussion and Appetizers
Southsiders looking for book recommendations can learn about new titles during Greenwood Library’s Books & Brews, a book discussion from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at Oaken Barrel Brewing Co., 50 Airport Parkway, Greenwood. Participants will have the opportunity to sample some appetizers while hearing about upcoming releases from librarians. Register at www.greenwoodlibrary.us.

Want to Help Pack a Million Meals?
The seventh annual Million Meal Marathon needs more than 3,000 helpers to pack 1 million meals Tuesday, Oct. 10, for Indiana’s hungry. Volunteers will work alongside of Indianapolis Colts players and cheerleaders from 9 a.m.-7:30 p.m. at Lucas Oil Stadium. The meals include vitamins and minerals, dehydrated vegetables and rice and can be prepared by just adding boiling water. Visit www.millionmealmovement.org for volunteer or sponsorship information.
