Farmers Market Is Open Saturday Mornings
The Greenwood Farmers Market is open from 8 a.m.-noon every Saturday in the parking lot of Greenwood United Methodist Church, 525 N. Madison Ave., where numerous vendors sell their merchandise.
Fish and Tenderloin Fry
Christ United Methodist Church, 8540 S. U.S. 31, is hosting a fish and tenderloin fry from 11 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tenderloin or fish sandwiches, two side dishes and a beverage will be served for $9. Chicken nugget meals for children cost $4. Program Offers Insight About Dementia
Right at Home, 5602 Madison Ave., which provides in-home care and assistance, will host the “Dementia Live” immersion program at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27. A big hit with caregivers and families of clients with the disease, the program is a high-impact simulation experience that immerses participants into life with dementia, resulting in a deeper understanding of what it is like to live with cognitive impairment and sensory change. Learn About the Roles of Therapy Dogs
Fred Shonk and his therapy dog, Stuart, will be the guests when the Perry Township/Southport Historical Society meets from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, at the Perry Township Education Center, 6548 Orinoco Ave. Shonk will talk about the busy life of therapy dogs, their many positive, nurturing qualities and how they benefit children, nursing home and hospital patients.
Blood Donors Needed
The American Red Cross is experiencing a critical blood shortage and is encouraging everyone to donate. Donors must be in generally good health, at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent) and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 1-800-733-2767.
Flu Shot Clinic
Franciscan Health will provide flu and pneumonia shots from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at Greenwood Park Mall at the Rejuvenation Station, near Sears. Most insurance plans will be accepted, and vaccines for the uninsured are $10. Free shots will be provided to those 18 and younger.
Program Covers Self-management of Diabetes
The Marion County Health Department’s ABCs of Diabetes, a free four-part program that covers the self-management of the disease, will be offered from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Wednesdays in October at Franklin Road Library, 5550 S. Journey Johnson County is offering $20,000 in grant money to people and groups that plan to bring visitors into the county by building new attractions or by organizing new festivals, events and sports tournaments during 2018.
