Wrecking crews began demolishing the former Baptist Temple in the 2700 block of South East Street. The main sanctuary was being leveled, but most of the school building would remain intact. Plans called for the site to house a charter school.

After 30 years of service to Perry Township Schools, Southport High School Principal Larry Hensley-Marschand retired.

The Beech Grove High School Alumni Association named Michael Chappel and Gordon “Gordie” Fields as its Alumnus and Teacher of the Year, respectively. Chappel was a sports writer for The Indianapolis Star, and Fields taught physical education and language and coached football, basketball, track and wrestling before retiring in 2002.
