Perry Meridian’s girls basketball team (13-1) won its first Marion County Tournament by defeating the state’s No. 1 team, Southport, 67-56, which was previously 15-0.  The Falcons, coached by Roz Murphy and assistant Jill Brunic, featured Karen Fair, Michelle Van Deman, Lisa Cox, Toni Music, Lori Courtney, Cindy Ellis, Denise Gritton, Karen Nitsch, Mary Beth Scheuth, Susie Hinkle, Rita Maxwell and Karla Hall.
