Boy Scout Jeffrey Sutt of Troop 316 is building a veterans memorial in Southport Park for his Eagle Scout project.
Digging up the rose bushes surrounding the American flag at the park, he and his team of volunteers have begun preparing the area. A flag from each branch of the military will surround the American flag, and the memorial will be decorated with a retaining wall and brick pavers. “I like doing stuff for veterans and seeing their faces when they see us give back,” said Sutt, who attends Perry Meridian High School. “I wanted to do something that would benefit Flag Day in the park. I’m looking forward to getting it completed and hopefully seeing a lot of people come and see the flags and enjoy the project itself.” Sutt is raising funds to purchase the flagpoles and will sell engraved pavers for the memorial.
