The Buck Creek Players present After the Fair, a musical based on a short story by Thomas Hardy, which started Jan. 25 at the Buck Creek Players Playhouse on the Southside. Written by Stephen Cole with music by Matthew Ward, After the Fall continues the Buck Creek Players 45th season of quality theatre.

“Love lies between the lines” in After the Fall, a romantic and literate musicalization of Hardy’s short story, On the Western Circuit. The award-winning four-character musical has played off-Broadway, London and various cities. Unbeknownst to her husband (Scott S. Semester as Arthur Harnham), what happens when a married Victorian British woman (Lori Ecker as Edith Harnham) writes letters for her illiterate maid (Tara Sorg as Anna) and falls in love with the man to whom she is writing (Zachary Hoover as Charles)?

D. Scott Robinson returns to direct at the playhouse after directing previous productions of Dogfight and Bonnie & Clyde. The production team includes co-producers Scott A. Fleshood and Lynne B. Robinson, music director Jill Stewart, set designer/technical director John Walker, costume designer Cathy Cutshall, lighting designers Maria Matters and Eric J. Matters, sound designer Matt Spurlock, stage manager Bobbi Griffis, and properties Melissa Devito and Molly Kraus.

The show continues at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2:30 p.m. Sundays through Feb. 10. The playhouse is at 11150 Southeastern Ave., its location since 2001, and has a capacity for 30 theatre-goers. Info and tickets online at: buckcreekplayers.com.
