The Indiana Veterinary Medical Association presented Dr. Philip Borst with its Lifetime Achievement Award during its annual meeting Feb. 6 in Indianapolis.

After graduating from Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine in 1975, Borst joined his father at Shelby Street Animal Clinic, where he continues to practice today. He has been active in veterinary medicine throughout his career and has served in all of the association’s offices.

His alma mater is equally important to him as he has served on various boards and committees at Purdue. He has received the Purdue Alumni Association’s National Citizenship Award and the Diamond P Award, the highest honor given by the athletic department.

Borst continues to be active in many political, civic and sports activities. He is co-chairman of the Big Ten men’s and women’s basketball tournaments and is a member of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame board of directors and the Indianapolis Airport Authority board of directors. He was a member of the 2012 Super Bowl bid committee.

Borst, who served on the Indianapolis City-County Council from 1980-2007 and at one time was president, was a founding member of Perry Senior Services. He graduated from Southport High in 1968 and was named Alumnus of the Year in 2015. He continues to be a staunch supporter of the school.
