SUBMITTED PHOTO Cameron Ellis has been named the Southport Police Department’s Officer of the Quarter for organizing a program to benefit The Julian Center, a facility for physically and sexually abused individuals. The initiative is known as POGB, which stands for Police Officers Giving Back. Ellis has secured donations of bottled water, Gatorade, food, clothes, shoes, purses, diapers, toys and baby formula and is working with the center’s Jennifer Reister.

Monsignor Mark A. Svarczkopf, pastor of Our Lady of the Greenwood Parish, received the Outstanding Eagle Scout Award from the National Eagle Scout Association on March 12 during the church’s 5:30 p.m. Mass. Svarczkopf, seen with some of the Scouts he has mentored, was recognized for the positive impact he has had on the community. He has been active in Scouting for nearly 60 years. The award was presented by Patrick Sterrett, Scout executive of Crossroads of America Council, and Joseph Weingarten, association member. |
