(SUBMITTED PHOTO) Henry Burkhart Elementary School was recognized in Atlanta as a recipient of the 2018-19 Title I Distinguished Schools Award for Exceptional Student Performance. Burkhart administrators include, from left, front, Vickie Carpenter, Meghan McCrocklin, Darlene Hardesty, Joann Ahmay, back row, Jeanetta Penniston, Matt White, Tony DiSano, Matt Bush, Perry Schools Supt. Pat Mapes, and Jane Pollard. The award was first announced by the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) in December, and administrators were honored Feb. 6. The school was selected after a rigorous data review and interview process to identify successful, high-poverty schools with a diverse student population. With a school poverty level of 80 percent, the school has maintained an ‘A’ or ‘B’ for the past two years. Forty-nine percent of the student body, many are immigrants or refugees, receive services through the English Learners program.
