Student Council members, along with a few teachers, packed food for the Million Meal Movement which distributes millions of meals to hungry families in Indiana. According to the organization, one million Hoosiers - including one in five children - don’t know where they’ll get their next meal.
Students at Southport Elementary School began spinning their wheels recently for a good cause. In partnership with IU Simon Cancer Research Center, students are raising awareness for multiple myeloma, a rare cancer. Third-grade students hosted a stationary spin bike-a-thon and invited the public to donate $1 per minute for a spin on the bike. The event was the pinnacle of the class’s Project Based Learning (PBL) initiative which allows students to research and work toward solving a real-world problem.
