SUBMITTED PHOTO Burkhart Elementary’s All That Jazz choir won $2,500 for garnering first-place honors in the B105.7-FM Christmas choir contest. The group is seen with representatives of Forum Credit Union, who visited the school to award the prize. The funds will help cover the cost of the ensemble’s trip to the Smokey Mountain Music Festival in Gatlinburg, Tenn., in late April and early May.

Southport Middle School seventh-graders (from left) Kayden Casey, Bella Green and Lexie Green ran for Spiece Distance Project at the USA Track & Field Junior Olympics Dec. 13 in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and finished third in the 11- and 12-year-old division. Lexie had a time of 11 minutes, 11.01 seconds in the 3K run and finished 48th. Bella placed 131st with a time of 11:44.50, and Kayden ran a 12:15.71 to finish 222nd. SUBMITTED PHOTO
