Roncalli’s Alumnus of the Year Award bestowed upon two grads

The Revs. Ben Syberg and Tim Wyciskalla were honored with Roncalli’s Alumnus of the Year Award during halftime of the Rebels’ Oct. 3 homecoming football game against Martinsville.

The award is usually presented to only one person, but the Alumni Association agreed that both men were equally deserving because of their continued faith and devotion to Catholic education. 

Syberg, an associate pastor at St. Barnabas Parish, participated on Roncalli’s cross-country team, sang in the show choir, ran track and performed in the spring musicals. 

Wyciskalla, an associate pastor at St. Malachy in Brownsburg, was involved with the Rebels’ basketball program, student council and mock trial. 

Both graduated from Roncalli in 2006, from Marian University’s Bishop Brute Seminary in 2010 and went on to St. Meinrad to complete their preparation to become priests. They were ordained June 7.
The only damper on the evening was the Rebels losing 12-10.
