Williams began his career at Manual as the freshman papoose at homecoming. He was a photographer for The Booster and the “Ivian” for all four years and participated in JROTC and other activities.
He served in the U.S. Army’s 1st Armored Division in Bamberg, Germany, reaching the rank of sergeant E-5 in two years.
Williams, whose wife, Jackie (Hittle), graduated from Manual in 1962, is retired after working 48 years in sales management at Herff Jones Co.
In 2009 he discovered that Manual hadn’t produced yearbooks for five years. He took it upon himself to launch a campaign to bring yearbooks back to the school. Along with Gordon Durnil, Class of ’54, they raised enough money to print a 2010 “Ivian.” Williams did the photography and helped produce the books through his association with Herff Jones.
Through the efforts of these two men and the contributions of alumni and others, the students have had yearbooks for the past five years. The books are a gift to each senior and are sold at a reduced rate to the rest of the classes.
The dinner program, which will also feature the presentation of scholarships, starts at 5:30 p.m. Call Willis Overton 897-0193 for more information.
