Greenwood returns with only three seniors from last year’s team that won only three games, from left, 6-0 Justin Conley, 6-4 Garrett Henderson and 5-10 Michael Bailey.
GREENWOOD (3-21) – Woodmen trying to break string of nine consecutive losing seasons … 47-145 (24.5 percent) since last winning campaign in 2005-06 … Bruce Hensley, dean of Johnson County coaches, in 27th year (241-325, 42.5 percent) … lost six seniors to graduation, including Sam Isenthal, 12.8 ppg, 8.1 rebounds … took a hit with injuries to starters,  junior forward Adam Rapp and 6-5 sophomore Jeffrey Reynolds … Hensley targeted 6-0 senior point guard Justin Conley and sophomore guard Braydon Kincaid as starters … competition is on for other spots … contenders are seniors in 6-4 center Garrett Henderson and guard Michael Bailey; juniors, 5-11 forward Donovan Sears and forwards Will Wolf and Jackson Beckham; plus sophomores, 6-6 Ethan McClain and Max Raker … Woodmen must learn fast … host Greenwood Christian Saturday night.

Coach’s comments: “We don’t have many kids with varsity experience, and we are young. We have plenty of perimeter players and more speed than size. Our kids have some athleticism and good skills. The big concerns will be defending the post area because we don’t have much size and getting rebounds. I think we will be balanced on offense. It’s always interesting when you start the season to find out who is going to score. We’re not going to be deep, so we may have to play zone defense a little bit.”
