The girls tennis team from Greenwood saw its outstanding season came to an end Friday in the first round of the state finals at Center Grove.
Coach Steve Gantz’s Woodmen (19-3) fell to No. 5 Park Tudor 3-2.
Greenwood’s twin senior sisters, Jade Kawamoto, No. 1 singles, and Jackie Kawamoto, No. 2, won their matches.
Jade defeated Brigitte Hodge 6-2, 6-2.
Jackie (24-0), the 2013 state champion, dominated Abby Sogard 6-2, 6-0.
Both advance to the state singles finals at Park Tudor, where first-round matches begin at 2 p.m. Friday. Saturday’s semifinals and finals start at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
Greenwood battled the Panthers for the all-important third win.
The Woodmen’s No. 1 doubles duo of sophomore Joanna Moran and junior Ali Youngman (10-9) fell 6-1, 7-5, and the No. 2 team of sophomore Abby Chatham and senior Madison Gaudian (8-2) lost 6-2, 7-6.
In No. 3 doubles, Greenwood senior Makenzie Estrem (20-4) lost her first set 6-1 to Noelle Enkema but bounced back to win the second 7-5 before being dominated 6-0 in the third set.
