Fourth-year Center Grove coach Zach Hann is surrounded by varsity and junior varsity players plus youngsters from the Center Grove Boys Basketball League at the end of a recent practice.
PictureCenter Grove junior Trayce Jackson-Davis, a versatile 6-9 standout, is among six returnees who provide high expectations for the Trojans.
CENTER GROVE (4A, 17-8) – Coming off second winning season in three years under coach Zach Hahn … graduated four seniors from winningest team since 2011-12 … standout junior 6-8 Trayce Jackson-Davis (12.4 points, 9.0 rebounds) and 6-3 senior Nate McLain (7.1 points) lead six returnees ... A major Division 1 prospect, Jackson-Davis has matured, now stronger physically and more agile … senior Joey Klaasen and juniors Lucas Doyle, Ben Nicoson and Spencer Pearcefield form experienced nucleus … plenty of size and depth: seniors, 6-7 Noah Gillard and 6-5 Cameron Fresher, juniors, Ben Greller and Cameron Petty, and sophomores, 6-5 Justin DeGraf, 6-4 Caleb Tidd and Drake Dillon … Hahn has a lot of combos to work with … high expectations ... most players back from team that lost to New Albany by five points in regional … No. 7 Trojans visit Southport Friday; Pike comes to CG for Dec. 8 showdown.

Coach’s comments: “You win 17 games and a sectional, you’re in a pretty good position, but that’s not good enough for this group. Playing against New Albany in the regional is a high school basketball experience that every kid dreams of having. It made them work harder in the off-season and come back with more focus. Our sophomores are very athletic and can compete. We have a bunch of guys who can make plays. We want to be focused with a next-play mentality. Our senior leadership will help the younger guys get better.

“We’re going to hang our hats on our offense and man-to-man defense. Our success depends on our game pace. Our goals this year are to average over 60 points on offense and hold teams below 50 points. This is my first group of seniors who have been with me in the program for four years. I’m looking forward to it.”
