Southside athletes from high schools brought home two team titles and many blue ribbons last week during the girls and boys track and field sectional championships.
With seven champions and two winning relays, Center Grove captured the girls sectional title at Franklin. Franklin Central, with five champions, was second at Shelbyville, Roncalli was third. Southport and Perry Meridian were third and fourth, respectively, at Ben Davis.
The Trojans’ boys team won the Columbus North Sectional by only 8.5 points (158-149.5) over the runner-up host Bulldogs. Center Grove won four individual events and two relays. Greenwood was fifth.
Franklin Central was distant second at Warren Central with Roncalli third. Southport was third at its sectional.
Center Grove, Franklin Central, Greenwood and Roncalli winners advance to Thursday’s boys regionals at Warren Central with Southport and Perry Meridian winners to North Central. The girls regionals were held Tuesday.
