Center Grove junior discus thrower Cameron Tidd brought home a state championship with a throw of 190 feet, 4 inches on his third attempt Friday at Indiana University Bloomington.
Two of CG’s relay teams finished third. Senior Derek Grimmer, sophomore Grant Mason, junior Zak Smith and senior Zach Hart combined for a time of 41.59 seconds in the 400 relay. Smith, Jackson Holht, Zach Hart and Trevor Hohlt were third in the 1,600 relay (3 minutes, 17.44 seconds), less than one second behind champion Lake Central.
Center Grove’s 4-by-800 relay posted a time 8:22.51 but did not qualify for the finals.
Grimmer was fourth in the 200 (21.72), and Jackson Hohlt was seventh in the 400 (49.25).
Southport’s Charlie Stroub was eighth in the 300 hurdles (38.83).
Perry Meridian’s Christian Buchanan was 10th in long jump (22-01.75).
Center Grove was fourth with 33 points in the boys meet.
