The men’s basketball team at Marian University was off to school-best 15-0 start and No. 1 ranking before losing 87-75 to St. Francis on Saturday.
The Knights, 3-1 in Crossroads League play, closed out 2015 with wins over Simmons College of Kentucky and Indiana University Southeast.
Marian hosted Bethel on Tuesday (result unavailable at press time) and will entertain Spring Arbor (Michigan) at 3 p.m. Saturday.
The women’s No. 7 team (13-3, 4-0) defeated St. Francis 82-62 Saturday for its fifth straight game and trounced Holy Cross College (Indiana) 91-49 to close out 2015. Roncalli graduate Kellie Kirkhoff played 33 minutes and scored seven points against Holy Cross.
The ladies travel to Bethel today and to Spring Arbor on Saturday. They return home to face Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13.
Here on the Southside, the men’s team from the University of Indianapolis opened 2016 by defeating Governors State 106-81 Saturday.
The Greyhounds (8-2, 4-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference) will host Maryville (St. Louis) at 7:45 p.m. Thursday and Missouri St. Louis at 3:15 p.m. Saturday.
The lady’s team (2-10, 0-2)is home to Maryville at 5:30 p.m. Thursday before entertaining Missouri St. Louis at 1 p.m. Saturday.
