Perry Meridian sophomore Sajin Smith will meet Bloomington North senior Mac Rogers in a first-round No. 1 singles match Friday in the state tennis championships at Park Tudor.
Smith and Rogers met earlier this season at Bloomington North, but the match was suspended due to darkness. They were recently named All-District players by the State Tennis Coaches Association.
The Smith-Rogers winner advances to the semifinals at 10 a.m. Saturday with championship matches at 2 p.m.
In the regional final match Saturday at Fishers, Smith dominated Peter Petrovic of Brownsburg in the first set 6-0 but dropped the next one 7-6 before recovering to win the third set 6-2.
Smith reached the regional finals by defeating Seth Nation of Shenandoah 6-2, 6-1.
Soccer teams outed
Sectional champions Perry Meridian and Greenwood Christian Academy were eliminated Saturday in first-round regional matches.
Perry Meridian fell to No. 6 Castle 1-0 in the 3A Seymour Regional.
The Falcons had six shots on goal but came up empty-handed. They will graduate 12 seniors from the 12-7-1 squad. Perry Meridian was the only unranked team at Seymour.
Facing 1A No. 1 Covenant Christian, No. 12 GCA fought hard but was blanked 3-0 at the Knightstown Regional. The Cougars finished with a 14-4-1 record. GCA graduates Daniel Cho, Gerrit Huizinga, Micah Loy and Gavin McCabe.
