Twenty-three individual sectional champions are among 65 wrestlers from Southside high schools who will be competing Saturday at 9 a.m. in IHSAA regionals. No. 3 Perry Meridian leads the way with seven sectional champions; Roncalli has six. Each team sends 14 wrestlers to regionals. The Falcons captured the Southport sectional by 14 points, 313- 299, over runner-up Roncalli. Southport was third and Beech Grove fourth.
At Warren Central, Franklin Central finished a distant second to the host champion No. 1-ranked Warriors, 322-167. The Flashes claimed three titles. Lutheran’s Hayden Filipovich won the 182-pound class as the Saints qualified three wrestlers.
At Mooresville, No. 19 Center Grove was as close to the championship as one-half point, falling to rival Franklin, 225-224.5. The Trojans took four titles. Greenwood was fourth with Nick Willham winning the 195-pound class. Qualifiers from the Southport sectional compete Saturday in the Perry Meridian regional with Warren Central qualifiers wrestling at Pendleton Heights and Mooresville qualifiers returning to Mooresville.
