GCA's Dalton first

Greenwood Christian Academy junior Allie Dalton captured the South Dearborn Regional cross-county girls championship Saturday at Blue River Memorial Park in Shelbyville.
Dalton covered the 5K distance in 18 minutes, 2 seconds, finishing 44 seconds ahead of Greensburg’s Shelby Plake.
Center Grove junior Valerie Clark was fifth (19:01) and led the Trojans to the team championship. The Trojans amassed 49 points with five runners among the top 15 to qualify for the semistate.
Runner-up Southport also qualified for the semistate. Led by senior Delaney Bucker and junior Erin Sullivan, each with times of 19:27, the Cardinals had three runners among the top 14 finishers.
Perry Meridian junior Olivia LeMasters, ninth, 19:21; sophomore Kayla O’Brian, 24th, 20:20; and sophomore Sarah Jones, 39th, 21:20; qualified for Saturday’s Carmel Semistate at 10:30 a.m.
The top 10 individuals from non-advancing teams and the first six qualifying teams from semistate advance to the state finals at the Wabash Valley Sports Center in Terre Haute.
Greenwood senior Hunter Smith was second in the boys run at Blue River Memorial Park, where teams from Greenwood, Center Grove, Perry Meridian and Southport advanced.
The top runners for each team were: Center Grove, freshman John Hodges, 20th, 16:39; Perry Meridian, sophomore Christopher Switzer, sixth, 16:08; and Southport, sophomore Michael Crook, ninth, 16:18.
Greenwood Christian Academy’s Hunter Slater and Ethan Pine qualified.
Rushville Regional runner-up freshman Shayla Traas (19:01.8) led the way for Franklin Central to capture the girls championship. Franklin Central had five runners within the top 11.
Roncalli’s girls finished third to advance to the Carmel Semistate; freshman Katie Minton (19:55.4) led the way with her seventh-place finish.
Franklin Central’s boys team lost the Rushville Regional title by two points (48-50) to Greenfield; Roncalli missed the fifth and final qualifying spot by three points to New Palestine (147-150).
FC senior Robby Lawson, third, 16:18.8, led the Flashes; junior Neil O’Brien, 23rd, 17:14.2; led Roncalli.
Beech Grove senior Vilis Vuskalns, ninth, 16:43.9, advanced with teammates Conner Kelley and Brian Davids.
