We’ve all been waiting for this moment, and it happened Friday for Southport quarterback Eddie Schott – three touchdowns by the junior gunslinger, including an 84-yard first-quarter strike to Rashawn Haskins.
The Cardinals went on to win their homecoming 38-28.
The victory improves Southport’s overall record to 4-3 and 4-1 in Conference Indiana.
Schott completed 17-of-28 attempts for 308 yards, with Haskins being his top receiver, snaring eight catches for 157 yards and two touchdowns. Lucas Willoughby, Kobe Davis and Ryan Lezon hauled in five, three and three catches, respectively.
It was also a big night for sophomore tailback LaMarco Yates, who had a season-high 121 yards rushing on 27 carries and two touchdowns.
The Cards are tied for second in the conference with Columbus North, one game back in the win column to league-leading Franklin Central.
Southport will be at conference foe Bloomington North Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
The final regular-season game is at home against Columbus North Oct. 13.
The Cardinals will host Avon in the first round of the Class 6A sectional Oct. 27.
