Soccer, tennis and cross country wrap-up

In girls soccer, Southport and Perry Meridian were in action Tuesday with semis Thursday at North Central; Greenwood and Center Grove collided Tuesday with the winner advancing to the semis Thursday at 5 p.m.; Greenwood Christian met Central Christian Tuesday with the winner facing International or Speedway Thursday at Ritter; and Lutheran faced Scecina Tuesday with the victor meeting Bethesda Christian or Park Tudor Thursday.

Matches Thursday find Franklin Central facing Warren Central at 7 p.m. at Greenfield; Roncalli hosting Herron at 5:30 p.m.; and Beech Grove meets the Connersville/New Palestine winner at 7 p.m. at Rushville.

The championship matches start at 2 p.m. Saturday at 2 p.m. In boys soccer, 1A No. 7 Greenwood Christian collides with Lutheran in the Southwestern sectional at 5 p.m. Wednesday. GCA advanced Monday by defeating No. 4 Oldenburg 2-0 on goals by George Apgar and Danny Wilson.

Lutheran shut out Hauser 3-0. In the 3A Center Grove sectional, Roncalli handled upset-minded Greenwood 5-2 and plays Whiteland at 5 p.m., Wednesday. Tuesday matches found CG against Southport and Franklin against Perry Meridian. At Lawrence North, Franklin Central tests Cathedral at 7 p.m. Wednesday. At Monrovia, Edgewood blanked Manual 4-0 Monday; Beech Grove meets Herron at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Boys title matches are Saturday at 7 p.m.

Tennis
Boys tennis sectional championship teams Center Grove, Roncalli and Perry Meridian played Tuesday in the first round of the Center Grove regional with the title match today at 4:30 p.m. Roncalli won its 10th sectional title and second straight Friday by defeating Lutheran at Franklin Central.

Center Grove swept rival Whiteland 5-0 Friday for the host Trojans’ 10th sectional trophy. Mitch Runkle, Trey Thixton, Mason Runkle won singles matches and J.T. Embrey/Dhrumil Patel and Grant Herron/Nic Ballesteros won doubles matches. Perry Meridian edged rival Southport 3-2 and then defeated Decatur Central 4-1 for the title.

Cross country
Cross country sectionals unfold Saturday with girls teams running at 10 a.m. Perry Meridian and Southport are at Ben Davis; Beech Grove, Franklin Central, Lutheran and Roncalli run at New Palestine; and Center Grove, Greenwood Christian Academy and Greenwood journey to Franklin. The top 5 teams from each site and top 10 runners not with a qualified team advance to regional runs Oct. 13.
