(7-3, 4A) Winning culture has arrived … aiming at fourth straight winning season under coach Mark Weller in seventh year at helm … graduated prolific offense, averaged 483 yards per game and scored 63 touchdowns … gone are Andries, career 8,427 yards passing, 95 TDs and 2,351 yards rushing and 37 TDs; running back Walter Ballinger, 1,222 all-purpose yards; end Dylan Allen, 688 yards receiving, eight TDs; and Nate Sanchez, 109 tackles … junior Jordan Reel up from junior varsity takes over as QB … junior Dallas Culpepper (44 tackles), one of state’s top linemen returns with defensive back Sergio Hulse (24 tackles), senior lineman Isaiah Green (56 tackles), linebacker Josiah Sullivan (30 tackles) and tailback Isiah Hulse (6.6 yards per carry, 7 TDs) … most starting spots up in the air …transfer Josh Fryar, lineman Jake Weller and center Aden Cailey have impressed … overlooked defense key to success … need to be ready early … Hornets open Friday at Lutheran, first of four Indiana Crossroads foes in a row.

Coach’s comments: “We have a good returning nucleus. We have decent talent but there are a lot of question marks. We do have a lot of inexperience. A lot of guys will have to rise to the occasion. And that will be the key to our success. This group has adjusted to the culture of high expectations and that has carried over into their hard work during the summer.

“We have been able to hit the ground running. This is a hard-working group with a lot of potential. We have to make up for the experience factor quickly. Potentially we could have one of the best defensive lines in the state. Our conference is a meat grinder but we have the potential to be at the top again.”
