Roncalli’s boys tennis team won the Franklin Central Sectional championship by defeating Beech Grove 5-0 on Friday.
Singles players Blake Amonett, Chad Ransburg and Jake Evans won their matches, as did the doubles pairs of Michael Sailing and Keegan Cougill and Cameron Papandria and Bryson Meek.
The Rebels advanced to the finals with a 3-2 win over Franklin Central on Thursday. The sectional title was the eighth in the program’s history and first since 2009.
“This win means a great deal to the kids and their parents,” said coach Mark Claeys. “For two years we have been working hard for this opportunity, knowing that we would have a shot at the title this year. Through the highs and lows of the season, the boys recognized that we were continuing to improve as a team.”
The Rebels met Perry Meridian on Tuesday in the opening round of the Center Grove Regional. Results were unavailable at press time.
