RONCALLI (17-9) – Rebels look for 12th consecutive winning season, fifth under Hall of Fame coach Stan Benge (80-25 at Roncalli) … nine returnees from last year but graduated sharpshooter Paige Saylor (13.3 points, 5.0 assists, hit 55 percent of shots) … Rebels are rangy and mobile … scrappy senior Lauren Fey (6.9 points, 3.3 assists) inherits leadership role … classmates include shooting guard Ellie Bischoff (9.5 points, 2.5 rebounds), 6-0 Sophie Daniel (5.0 points) and Katelyn McClary, recovered from torn ACL … 5-10 junior Alana Vinson (11.0 points, 5.4 rebounds), 5-10 Anna Bauer, Maggie Schoening, Amanda Prather and Jada Moran counted on heavily … 5-10 freshmen twins Sophie and Abbie Carr with 5-9 Maddie Bischoff to have impact.

Coach’s comments: We do have a good nucleus and have some good younger players. Paige was a very special player. She allowed us to play against the real athletic teams. We were in a position to win our sectional game against Pike last year. We have to be able to handle the ball against that type of pressure. A lot of these girls have worked their tails off.

“Team chemistry is huge, so if we can develop that and everyone accepts their role, we have an opportunity to do some really good things. The three freshmen wouldn’t be up if we didn’t think they could play. We want to be a team that is tough to score against. Offensively, we want to know what to do with the things that other teams give us. We want destiny to come our way.”
