Roncalli senior Paige Saylor closed her high school athletic career by winning the state championship in long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 1 inch Saturday at Indiana University’s Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex in Bloomington.

Saylor’s leap broke her record of 18 feet, 10 inches set last year in winning the regional. Her effort Saturday was 1 1/2 inches longer than runner-up Kaitlyn Davis of Washington. Saylor becomes Roncalli’s second girls state champion, following 2004 shot put champion Anna Weber.

Roncalli’s Emily Sonderman was 16th with a leap of 17 feet, three-quarters of an inch.
Saylor, a 5-5 basketball standout, remains undecided on three colleges, including Evansville.
