Coached this year by Southport High School teacher Anthony Braun, the team was led by quarterback Evan Haag, who threw 10 touchdown passes, rushed for 10 TDs and converted 14 two-point plays over the past two seasons.
Other key contributors were receiver Carson Moore, running back Jeremy Peirce and fullback Mathew Chupp.
Braun says many players have developed into leaders on and off the field through a leadership club organized by dean Andrew Ashcraft. And via a program initiated by Southport High School football coach Brandon Winters, some of the players spent time with his team to learn how to become leaders and role models.
The team looks like it will be prepared to take the field as high schoolers next fall at Perry Stadium, which will probably be renamed because Perry Meridian High will have its own football field.
