Roncalli won its third Marion County softball tournament title Monday by defeating 2014 champion Decatur Central 5-1 at Ben Davis.
Coach Dave Lauck also guided the Rebels to county crowns in 2009 and ’13.
The Rebels (16-4), who have had their ups and downs this season, reached the championship game by defeating Lawrence Central 5-1 in the opener, then Saturday edged No. 10 4A Franklin Central 5-4 and dominated Southport 10-0 in six innings.
“The team has put together some great softball over the last two weeks,” Lauck said. “We’re looking to continue this momentum.”
Freshman pitcher Jordan Jenkens picked up her ninth win in the championship game, and senior Cat Yanis earned her third save.
Roncalli, ranked No. 16 in the latest Class 4A Indiana Coaches Poll, struck early as senior Maddie Mulinaro drove in two runs with a two-out double in the bottom of the first.
Then they scored three runs in the sixth. Junior Madeline Irmer drew a bases-loaded walk, and junior Taylor Shull and freshman Lauren Fey drove in runs with singles.
In the quarterfinals against Franklin Central, Roncalli’s Megan Choinacky drove in three runs.
