BEECH GROVE (8-14) – Hornets have not had a winning season or sectional championship since 2007-08 … eighth-year coach Matt English is 60-85 with two .500 seasons … graduated four seniors who combined for 26.5 ppg and 13.9 rpg … English has a lot of new players to go with senior David Corbin and juniors, Chase Andries (9.8 ppg, 2.5 rpg) and Dylan Allen, plus sophomore point guard Kenny Washington … lot of positions up for grabs … 6-8 senior Corey Crawford and 6-5 sophomore Jomar Seals give Hornets some size … junior Montrez Hearon picked up confidence from football season … juniors Chris Feely and Kole Aping and sophomore Jayln Curry give Hornets options … BG has lots of pieces – but how will they fit together … Hornets travel to Manual Saturday.

Coach’s comments: “Our seniors don’t have much experience; only David Corbin was with us last year. Juniors Chase Andries and Dylan Allen played a lot, and sophomore Kenny Washington came on for us at the end of the year. We’re young, but we have more size than last year. It’s nice to have that height that I’m eye to eye with. The competition for positions is really heavy. It’s hard to see where it will all shake out right now, but our practices have been hard and competitive. We want to be going hard against each other in practice but still within the framework of helping the team. We are looking for leadership and some of that will carry over from football to this group on the floor.”
