(3-7, 6A) Rude awakening last season for first-year coach Matt Henninger … outscored 109-24 and winless in first three games … lost to Southport 48-14 in third game, improved to scare Cardinals in Sectional, losing 20-13 … lost 18 seniors … expect Falcons to keep improving … running back Jalen Lee (317 yards rushing, two TDs), Brandon Green, soph Logan Beard and Brooks Davis competing for QB, may not be settled until this week … senior D’Andre Miles (24.3 yards per catch, six TDs) leads receivers with classmates Bobby Skaggs and Logan Dingess … senior Andre Harlan and junior Franklin Hammond (3.7 yards per carry) are running backs … senior Alex Parra leads O-line with Drew Rastrelli, Justin White, junior Sam Littlejohn, Mykal Manalo, and Edgar Melkonyan and transfer Jesus Tallez battling to start … Trent Bowsher leads D-line … Holden Storm moves from linebacker to defensive end … Tre Breaziel and Dekahi Jones seasoned linebackers … seniors Carlos Shane Jr. and Noah Warren at safety …Falcons can mix and match on both sides of ball … new coaches include former Falcon QB standout Adam Weise (offense) and Noah Ruark (secondary).

Coach’s comments: “We opened last year with several players trying to figure out how they could play harder than they thought they could. We fought Southport to the end, and they had a pretty good team. We found a way to compete and that was a testament to our growth as a team.

“We had a great summer that put us light-years ahead in our preparation. We have some good athletes back. To be honest, I don’t expect some of our positions to be settled until the day before our opener. I want to put our best 22 guys on the field. We may switch some positions around and hope we don’t miss a beat. We have lots of line competition on both sides. We are solid with linebackers and D-backs. We’re looking for depth. We’re going to get ourselves ready to play at home and want our players to feed off that energy.”
