PERRY MERIDIAN (1-9) – Lost four games at first-ever on-campus stadium before defeating Terre Haute North … allowed opponents 32.9 points per game … offense produced only 13 TDs … graduated 26 seniors, including defensive standouts Noah Warren (80 tackles), Tre Breaziel (66 tackles) and Trent Bowsher (38 tackles) … 2003 last winning season; 47-99 since … coach Henninger begins third year at helm … defense gets boost with leading tackler in senior linebacker Dekahri Jones (81 tackles), D-back Jake Opsahl (ran back interception for TD against Terre Haute North), linebackers Austin Lane and Brandin Green (31 tackles), Sean Thomas to linebacker from safety with linemen Chris Wainscott and Chris Bowsher on both sides of the ball. Quarterback up for grabs between incumbent Brooks Davis (1,281 yards passing, five TDs, 15 interceptions) and Alex Hooten … Obackfield has Jones, Shawn Thomas, and wrestler Aiden Warren … O-line sees Bowsher, Wainscott, Chance Arboneaux, Nick Carballal, Sam Jones, Anthony Adams and Brandon Corliss sharing minutes … freshman coach Joey Steward moves up to coach linebackers and former Falcon Shawn Kelly will assist with the secondary … Falcons open at Lawrence North and home against Southport Aug. 24.

Coach’s comments: “In some ways we will be a little bit behind facing some Mid-State teams. Our non-conference games were Decatur Central and Greenwood, so we are familiar with them. The Mid-State will be a good base for us. We were senior-heavy last year, but the sophomores weren’t far behind and some were playing late season. We have five end-of-year starters back on both sides of the ball. Statistically, we moved the ball better than last year, didn’t score as many points. We have a lot of positions that are unsettled; we have to figure out how all the pieces fit together offensively and defensively. but we will put the best kids on the field. We will be good up front, but we will be thin. “Our strength will be up front on both sides of the ball. We’re not bigger than last year, but we are nastier. The name of the game is to get better each week, and that’s what we have done the two previous years. We were playing our best football at the end of the season last year, but we faced Brownsburg in the sectional. This is our third season together, so this finally feels like this is our program now.”
