Girls basketball sectionals provide new opportunities for teams that have experienced ups and downs this season.
Five Southside teams, led by 4A No. 12 Center Grove (16-5) and 3A No. 11 Beech Grove (16-4), have winning records in this the final week of the regular season. Greenwood Christian is 16-6 after winning the Central Christian tourney Saturday for the first time. Manual (12-10) captured its one-day tourney Saturday.
Consistency will be the key to winning for most area teams when playoffs begin Tuesday.
Beech Grove and No. 9 Danville are in opposite brackets at Manual, which faces the Warriors Tuesday. Center Grove is favored to win the Franklin Central Sectional; No. 2 Pike is favored at Perry Meridian; and No. 2 Tindley is a heavy pick at the Greenwood Christian Sectional.
Semifinals are Feb. 2 with championships Feb. 3.
