Center Grove’s No. 1-ranked boys golf team fired a 290 June 11 to win the Providence Regional by eight strokes over Bloomington South at Champions Pointe Golf Club in Henryville.
Zach Carrabine and Noah Gillard shot 1-under 71s to lead the Trojans. Austin Crowder fired a 73, Ethan Shepherd a 75 and Christopher Heck a 76.
Carrabine was 1 under par on the front nine with a 35 and had three birdies and two bogies for the 18 holes. Gillard was 1 under on the back nine with a 35.
Perry Meridian and Corydon finished one stroke behind fourth-place Franklin and two shots behind third-place Floyd Central.
Justin Bowman and Chris Allman shot 75s to lead the Falcons; Brad Sprinkle shot a 77, Nick Osterburg a 82 and Landon Price a 83.
Greenwood’s Eric Moenkhaus recorded an 81, and Franklin Central’s Brady Vaughn shot a 91 but was 10 strokes over par after the first three holes.
The top three teams from each of the four regionals plus the top five scores from players on non-qualified teams advanced to the state finals, which teed off Tuesday and will resume today at 8 a.m. at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel. Tuesday’s results were unavailable at press time. This marks the first time 14 years that the finals have not played at The Legends Golf Club in Franklin.
Center Grove is one of seven teams returning from last year’s field. Heck was among the top 10 shooters in last year’s tourney.
